What is a Memorial?

A memorial to one who has passed may be a collection of images and remembrances, a building or street named after them, a plaque hanging in a prominent place, a statue or any number of other contrivances intended to preserve awareness among the living of the life of a departed done. However, the most powerful memorial may be personal actions inspired by the departed and taken by those who survive them in support of whatever the departed dedicated their life energy toward.
The Self Esteem web site and its mission objectives are a memorial tribute to Mary Ann Walsh a Master Instructor of the Moo Duk Kwan's Soo Bahk Do® martial art system and it is presented with the hope that readers will consider taking personal action in support of the message conveyed and in doing so memorialize Master Mary Ann Walsh.
The Self Esteem web site presents an important message that she chose to share with participants during one of her historic seminars presented in the Adirondack Mountains of New York at the Phoenicia Pathwork Center circa 1984.
The fact that she selected this message from all possible messages to share with the instructors and students in attendance suggests that it had special significance and meaning to her. It also suggests that she hoped those receiving it would understand it, contemplate it, embrace it and then take future actions based upon their new found enlightenment.
The book excerpt that she distributed to help convey the message she was teaching us that day is as timeless and relevant now as it was when first penned by the author and as when it was brought into our awareness by Master Mary Ann Walsh. Many times since that seminar, I have contemplated the lesson that she offered.
She was a member of the U.S. Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation, a non-profit organization of 5000 members dedicating tremendous time and energy to helping others and bettering our society. Federation member actions support personal growth, heighten awareness of one's true personal abilities and capacity and by virtue of the relationships and experiences shared together and by the successes achieved, enhanced self esteem is an inevitable outcome.
In remembrance of Master Mary Ann Walsh and in tribute to her, today the important message she shared on that hillside seminar in the backwoods of New York is represented here on the Self Esteem web site for your contemplation so that one tiny part of her wisdom may live on.
I trust that the lesson she perceived within these words and which she endeavored to impart to us that day may also become apparent to readers who will then take a personal action in support of it.
